First Chair Festival

If orange leaves and snowcapped mountains didn’t already have your ski gear out of the closet, then premier season has you in your full kit walking around the house…and possibly skiing off your shed roof into a pile of leaves. That’s what these films evoke in us.

What would skiing be without film? Premier season is a tradition that started in the times of Warren Miller and inspired the creation of production companies everywhere. Ask any ski bum what their favorite segment was from Propaganda or Blizzard of AAHHHS, all the way up to Refresh, The 86, Almost Ablaze, or Houligan. Films like these are what sparked our obsession. They're a creative outlet to put some soul into what was accomplished last winter. A “finished” project to what is a never ending quest for the white room, perfect line, and laced feature. Watching our ski idols and our best friends on the big screen together fosters new perspectives and even new ideas of what skiing could be; then down the rabbit hole we go into winter.

Premier season just got better. This Saturday September 17th, event organizers from Newschoolers and Powder Magazine have partnered up to present the inaugural First Chair Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah. Continuing the legacy that iF3 has created, people are traveling from across the country for this gathering of snowsports community. At this years FCF you can expect films from Level 1, 4frnt, Inspired Media Concepts, Good Company and more. If that wasn’t enough for you, the Festival is also featuring musical acts from Too $hort, Boombox with other performers yet to be announced.

Alpine Initiatives is a proud partner of the First Chair Festival in it’s first year and hopefully more to come, keeping in tune with the incredibly artistic aspects of the ski and outdoor community. You wont want to miss this! Head over to http://firstchairfestival.com to get your ticket, and come say hello!
