Do What You Love: Inspiration From Slomo

Do you ever look around and wonder “How did I end up here?...

And not in a “I’m on the top of a mountain surrounded by all my best friends and when we get back to town we’re all going to have a barbeque” kind of way, but rather in a “It’s Monday and I’m sitting in traffic on my way to a job I hate, and oh yeah, my rent is past due” kind of way.

If the answer is yes (and even if it’s no) then I think you are in need of a little dose of Doctor Slomo. Slomo is a man who found himself in an analogous place, bogged down by a way of life that really made no sense, participating in the world as what he refers to as “An Asshole.” But with a great amount of self reflection and the courage to start over, Slomo turned his life around for the better.

Slomo has truly figured out what it means to be a meaningful participant in this world. The formula? Do what you love. Since figuring this out, Slomo has given up his medical career and has been spending his time rollerskating in slow motion down the San Diego boardwalk.

What’s really cool about Slomo is his neurological explanation of why rollerskating is his way of being freed from the trappings of life. In a nutshell, activities that involve gliding and lateral acceleration (like skiing!) simply feel good and can act as a form of meditation.
