Alpine Initiatives

*AI engages the snow sports community in sustainable initiatives that connect people and planet.

Who We Are

Many people wonder how we actually get all the work done that we do.  The short answer.… We have a selfless team of volunteers that give untold amounts of their time, expertise and resources to make this organization a success. Our volunteers are a tribe of people from all walks of life. Incredibly tight knit yet wide open to accepting newcomers, we manage to accomplish everything that we do by working remotely and maintaining continuous contact.

Meet the team:

JP Auclair

Co-Founder,  Co-Chair of the board
Branding Director,  Photographer,  Videographer

JP’s focus is to create social and environmental consciousness and action in the snow sports community. As a pro skier, JP has remained relevant in a rapidly changing sport over the last 16 years, and is one of the most well rounded skiers in the business. He won the first U.S. Open of Freeskiing Big Air and helped Salomon create and launch the 1080 Ski. He has filmed segments with various production companies, such as Poorboyz and Sherpas Cinema, and recently began co-directing and editing the same movies in which he stars. JP is a co-founder of Armada Skis, which is an athlete driven ski company focused on cutting-edge product designs. Throughout his career, JP has inspired others on and off the mountain; his intensity, passion and outdoor experience ultimately led him to co-found AI. JP actively directs branding, media, photography, cinematography and industry relationships and is responsible for ensuring that the organization is pursuing the vision he has laid out for it.

Lisa Lee Benjamin

Co-Founder,  Co-Chair of the board

Lisa is actively involved in nurturing sustainable environments that integrate people and structures with the ecology of their surroundings. In 2002, she founded Evo Catalyst, where she opens possibilities and challenges common ideas of sustainability and community. Her diverse list of clients includes urban dwellers, local ranchers, Whole Foods, various nonprofits and most recently the LA Museum of the Holocaust. Lisa became involved with AI after meeting Karambu Ringera and subsequently joined the team on a trip to Meru, Kenya. She is well versed in agricultural design, bio-intensive farming and permaculture, as well as has a natural affinity for forging partnerships with those who are like-minded. Lisa’s dedication to altering the way we live and transforming passion into action guides AI’s holistic approach and sustainability practices.

Mikey Hovey

Co-Founder,  Vice-Chair of the board
Community Outreach Director

Mikey credits his sense of adventure to living in mountain communities. In 2011, he co-founded Ripe, a permanent farm stand that promotes and sells locally grown food in the Vail Valley. He’s guided heli-ski trips in Alaska as well as produced big mountain ski competitions in France. Born in Aspen, raised in Vail, and matured in Jackson Hole, Mikey’s desire to forge meaningful connections with others led him to travel to Kenya to help create a self-sustainable home for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. It was here that Mikey and JP Auclair decided that lending a helping hand was central to their desire to live life to the fullest. They created AI as a platform to engage the snow sports community in sustainable initiatives that connect people and planet. Mikey is in charge of furthering snow sports community involvement and evolving the vision of the organization. His humbleness, quiet charm and insight are often reflected as he turns questions around and provides answers which get to the heart of the matter.
