Self Started Initiatives (SSI) Program

At Alpine Initiatives, we have found that the most organic form of personal growth occurs just outside one's comfort zone. This is why we encourage you to venture into the unknown in an effort to test your personal limits while simultaneously contributing directly to the progression of AI’s mission.

We challenge you to achieve that goal you have kept buried deep inside. We want you to run the marathon you always dreamt about, climb the mountain that always loomed just out of reach, or devour the 200 Twinkies you always yearned to eat. The time has come to turn your dream into a reality. We want you to get out there, have a blast, and achieve the impossible while getting your community involved.

Previous Self Started Initiatives

Megan Parks recently thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, a whopping 2,178 miles from Georgia to Maine, as part of the SSI program. She created and maintained an amazing blog about the experience so that her supporters could keep track of her progress. Megan asked her friends and family to pledge per mile that she hiked, raising nearly $3,000 for Alpine Initiatives.

For two consecutive years, Dylan Bowman has run the Leadville Trail 100 Ultramarathon as part of the SSI program. Both years he created a Facebook event to spread the word, collected pledges from his friends and family, and then set out to achieve his goal. He placed second and third in the two ultramarathons and raised nearly $12,000 for Alpine Initiatives.
