New Life for Old Snow Gear
It’s that time of year again. Ecstatic snow lovers ride lifts up mountains as daydreams of champagne powder dance in their heads. Adorned with glistening new gear acquired during the holiday season, you have a nagging question that can’t be shaken: What to do with all that old gear too gnarled up to pass on to a sibling or broke buddy?
Luckily, you have options to breathe new life into those now-useless boards and skis.
Recycle
Started in 2008 in Colorado, the Snow Sports Recycling Program (SSRP) uses a six-step process to turned unwanted snow gear into manufactured material used in industries like construction and landscaping, in addition to research and development for new snow gear. The organization is currently in the process of expanding their services into surrounding states. To find a drop-off site near you, visit the organization's Drop-off Locater. If located in Utah, visit Recycle Utah for recycling information. If you live outside those service spots, check in with your local gear store or ski lodge to find a recycling center near you.
Repurpose.
Rather than shipping your favorite board off to the chipper, transform it into a sweet new conversation piece for your home.
