Mountains Are Awesome! - July 2012

UK based artist and illustrator Jamie Mills doesn't live in an overly mountainous region, but after stumbling upon his work on various sites (Juxtapoz, The Fox is Black), we noticed that mountains and wildlife are at the center of his work. We wanted to learn more about his take on mountains and humans’ entanglement with nature, so we've simply reached out and asked:

AI: "What is it about mountains?"

JM: "I've always had a great pining for dusty peaked places. There's something in the stillness and grandeur of them that I think everyone has some kind of emotional response to...  ...Nature as a whole has been my main source of inspiration because the connections between all things have always fascinated me. Once you start realizing and focusing on the unbroken evolutionary chain that exists, it's hard not to be amazed and excited by these things."

Jamie’s renderings of mountains and nature not only hang on walls, but also make unique cushions, booklets and t-shirts. Check out his website and Etsy profile to enjoy a fresh take on the outdoors. If you are a fan and want to see more, check out his Tohu Va Vohu project on Tumblr; Images he's taken from google maps (a lot of them mountain-based) that you might enjoy looking through as well.

*On the first of every month, we’ll take a little time to pay tribute to what we think is one of the most awe-inspiring things out there: Mountains.  It might be a photo, video, collage, painting, poem, etc. ... just a little something to say, "Hey, mountains, you're awesome!
