Alpine Initiatives

Last night, Alpine Initiatives teamed up with Mountain Riders for a fundraising event in Grenoble. A few hundred students gathered to watch All. I. Can. and to discuss different sustainability ideas and practices in the mountains.

On the first of every month, we’ll take a little time to pay tribute to what we think is one of the most awe-inspiring things out there: Mountains. It might be a photo, video, collage, painting, poem, etc. ... just a little something to say, "Hey, mountains, you're awesome! This month, enjoy a photo essay by Michael Schlegel; "Massiv".

An idea, a few friends, the outdoors, lots and lots of snow, challenges, beauty, caught in the moment, mother nature's warnings ignored, lessons learned, respect... Nikolai Valdmanis never expected that he would have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others, or inspire his friends and family until he visited the Kithoka Amani Community Home (KACH) in Kenya back in 2010.  In the wake of a departure from his professional career, he dreamed of world travels and the personal challenge of hiking the 2,181 mile Appalachian Trail.
